January - Back to Basics

This time of year can be a bit grueling. It's cold and dark, the holidays are over and it seems like the fun days of summer are so far away. I like to take this time as an opportunity to dig in, to really focus on something and create some good habits that will serve me when the warm air starts to beckon once again.

Sometimes that focus can be creative in nature, maybe start a new project or learn a new medium. Perhaps it is organizational in nature, like cleaning out the old to make room for the new both physically and mentally. Maybe it just means digging into projects you are already involved in, like work or running a household. Whatever your focus becomes, allow yourself to be immersed in the routine of it. Notice as your skills develop or change and allow yourself to take pleasure in those moments of accomplishment.

Creating routines and good habits doesn't need to be complicated. Set yourself up for success by keeping things simple and attainable. To help support you in this journey, our yoga practice this month will be focused on the basics. Simple postures that we sometimes forget can be just as difficult to practice as some of the more complex ones. Practicing these postures routinely can mold our habits and help set us up for long term success.
