Once again, summer is upon us. The time of sun and light and heat. I have said it before, but I will say it again; Summer is my favorite time of year. For me, it is a time of reflection and redirection. A time to embrace the natural heat in the air to work the body a bit harder and rest a little deeper. Create space to re-evaluate the goals I set at the beginning of the year and shed any extra baggage that is no longer needed. Everything just feels better in my body during the warmer months.
I know that is not true for everyone, especially on those days where the heat becomes truly oppressive. All the more reason to listen to your own body and set your own goals accordingly. Who ever said that goal setting needs to be done according to the calendar year? Is there a time of year that naturally feels like a good fit to reflect and re-asses your goals? It is important to make time for those tasks when the body and mind are naturally more open to them. They will feel much easier and be much more thorough if you are already in an open state of mind.
For me, summer is that time. I like to plan major goals and timelines around the new year, but now is the time to look at what I have accomplished and see what is attainable. Sometimes something that wasn't even on the horizon back in January makes itself clear now. There are always a few things that are no longer important and can be removed from the list entirely. Doing that now opens up space for other goals that are attainable leading to feeling much more accomplished when I reflect again at the end of the year.
